Our History & Mission
The Mason City Youth Hockey Association (MCYH) is a volunteer-driven, non-profit organization dedicated to providing youth in North Iowa with the opportunity to learn, play, and grow through the game of hockey.
Since its founding, MCYH has been committed to developing young athletes both on and off the ice. Serving over 200 youth players each season, the association offers age-appropriate programs that emphasize skill development, teamwork, sportsmanship, and a lifelong love of the game.
Our programs are designed to support players at every stage—from those stepping onto the ice for the first time to those competing at higher levels. Through practices, games, and tournaments, athletes are challenged to improve their abilities while building confidence, discipline, and strong relationships with teammates and coaches.
At the heart of MCYH is a passionate community of families, coaches, and volunteers who work together to create a positive and supportive environment. We believe hockey is more than just a sport—it’s a way to teach life lessons, build character, and bring people together.

To provide the youth and general public of North Iowa the opportunity to participate in and enjoy ice sports while encouraging a healthy, active lifestyle. We strive to develop strong relationships within our programs and with those who are our guests through excellence and respect.

Our Affiliate
The Mid-West Amateur Hockey Association (MWAHA) was originally established as the Tri-State Amateur Hockey Association. The MWAHA is the official governing body for USA Hockey, covering the states of Iowa, Kansas and Nebraska. The MWAHA is a 501c3 not for profit organization.
All of the associations in IA, KS & NE that register with USA Hockey form the overall MWAHA board. By agreement with Missouri Hockey, the associations in proximity to the greater Kansas City area also associate with MWAHA even through their mailing addresses are in Missouri.
Each association within MWAHA is required to be in compliance with the MWAHA requirements. The list of requirements are listed in the Policies / procedures section of the website.
MWAHA Mission Statement
The Midwest Amateur Hockey Association (MWAHA), a not-for profit Affiliate of USA Hockey, Inc. with the primary purpose of providing leadership and initiatives to promote the great game of ice hockey in our area communities. The MWAHA will nurture a positive experience for members by overseeing, organizing, and developing hockey programs for all ages through the development of coaches, officials and volunteers to carry out the articulated objectives of our members. We are accountable to protect and serve our members and to place the players and the game in the forefront.
